Pacesetter Basketball members Sarah Boothe (Warren H.S., IL) and Rachael Hencke (Grafton H.S., WI) decided on their collegiate choices last week. The 6'5 Boothe, who has been in the Pacesetter Basketball program since the spring of 2005 and has been one of the most heavily recruited players in the nation since her freshman year, chose Stanford University after being accepted to the school at the end of June. The three-time Illinois All-State performer averaged 16.7 points, 8.9 rebounds, & 3.3 blocked shots as a junior while earning 1st Team All-State Honors and being selected as a Street & Smith's All-American. Boothe will enter her senior season as the front-runner for Miss Basketball in Illinois after scoring 1,403 points and grabbing over 850 rebounds in her first three varsity seasons. She selected Stanford over Norte Dame, Wisconsin, and Purdue. The 6'1 Hencke who led her Grafton H.S. team to the school's first-ever Wisconsin H.S. State Championship last season as a junior, selected Miami (Ohio) University after visiting the school two weeks ago. The forward averaged 14.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, & 3.1 blocks during her junior championship season, while also being selected 1st Team All-State. She also is the leading candidate for Miss Basketball in Wisconsin for the upcoming 2007-2008 season. Hencke selected the Lady Redhawks over Toledo, UW-Green Bay, and Lehigh. June 18, 2007
Wisconsin Pacesetter Basketball members Lin Zastrow (University of Wisconsin), Makie Schmidt (Sacred Heart University), and Morgan Herrick (Drake University) were three of thirty-two senior students attending public and nonpublic high schools in Wisconsin that were named winners of the 2007 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award. Zastrow who was selected as Miss Basketball in Wisconsin this past year and Schmidt who was a 1st Team All-State Selection in 2007' were also named to the 2006-2007 Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Academic All-State Team given to those senior players that excel on the court and in the classroom April 30, 2007
Pacesetter Basketball member Morgan Herrick (Cedarburg H.S., WI) has signed a National Letter of Intent, accepting a full-ride basketball scholarship to Drake University. The 6'1 senior forward decided last fall to wait until this spring to make her college decision and found the academic/basketball school she was looking for after making a second visit to the Des Moines, IA campus last week. Herrick is a three time All-State performer, including being selected as a 1st Team selection this past season, and is also her school's all-time leader in points (1,345) and rebounds (594). She was also a four-time North Shore All-Conference 1st Team selection and was chosen as the conference Player Of The Year three times. She will begin her collegiate career at the Missouri Valley Conference school beginning this fall. ....Courtney Weibel was chosen as the MVP of the recent Rising Stars H.S. ALL-Star Game after scoring 22 points, including connecting on 7 of 8 three point attempts....Morgan Herrick, Markie Schmidt, and Lin Zastrow were selected to participate in the 2007 WBCA All-Star Game to be held June 23rd in Madison, WI. April 6, 2007 Pacesetter Basketball member Markie Schmidt (Sr; Elkhorn H.S.) was the most coveted unsigned senior in Wisconsin this past season and the suitors were lined up from Milwaukee to New York hoping to land the athletic forward. In the end it was Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT that won over the 1st-Team All-Stater. The 6'0 Schmidt, who averaged 19 points and a state-leading (boys or girls) 14.8 rebounds selected the Lady Pioneers over Boston University, Lafayette, Colgate, and Northern Iowa. Devon Carbaugh (Sr; Sterling H.S.) became the second Pacesetter Basketball member to decide to accept a full-ride basketball scholarship to Division II Lewis University. The 5'11 forward who scored 1,793 points and grabbed 837 rebounds during her brilliant four-year H.S. career was swayed by the opportunity to be an immediate impact player for Coach Lynn Plett's Lady Flyers. She will be the main replacement for Pacesetter Basketball member Darcee Schmidt, who was a 1st Team Division II All-American for Lewis this past year. Carbaugh was a three-time All-State selection in Illinois and lead her Lady Warriors to the state finals this past season as a sixth seed in their region, the lowest seed in the past 21 years to make the Illinois State finals. Pacesetter Basketball member Sarah Boothe (Jr; Warren H.S., IL) was selected to participate in this summer's USA Basketball Youth Development Festival at the USA training center in Colorado Springs. The 6'5 center who is one of the most sought after juniors in the country, received the news shortly after returning from a visit to Stanford University where she was offered a scholarship. Pacesetter Basketball member Lin Zastrow (Sr; Jefferson H.S) was voted the Associated Press' 2007 Girls Basketball Player Of The Year by a statewide media panel last week. The 6'4 forward who was selected Miss Basketball in Wisconsin earlier this month, averaged 20.4 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Eagles leading them to a 22-2 record. Zastrow heads a group that includes eight other Pacesetter Basketball members who were also named to the AP All-State team. Morgan Herrick (Sr; Cedarburg H.S.) was selected to the second team and Markie Schmidt (Sr; Elkhorn H.S.), Rachael Hencke (Jr; Grafton H.S.), and Jadee Rooney (Jr; Markesan H.S.) were all named to the third team. Kelsey Sperka (Jr; New Berlin Eisenhower), Kate Glodowski (So; Amherst H.S.), Catie O'Leary (So; Janesville Parker), and Ellie Pearson (So; Madison West H.S.) were all chosen Honorable Mention. Michelle McDonald joined Fiedorowicz as a First Team selection. ....Lin Zastrow continued her award barrage as she was chosen the Daily Union Player Of The Year for the second year in a row and was also named the Southern Lakes Conference Player of the Year. Markie Schmidt joined Zastrow on the 1st Team.... Sierra West and Katie Krubsak were selected to the Washington County All-Area First Team Pacesetter Basketball member Rachael Hencke (Jr; Grafton H.S., WI) scored 18 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and rejected 6 shots, but in what will be known as "the shot" to everyone living in the town of Grafton, WI, it was her 12-foot bank shot with two defenders hanging on her with 3 seonds left in regulation, that really propelled the Lady Black Hawks to their first ever girls basketball state championship in a 41-35 overtime thiller over New London H.S. The 6'1 first-team all-stater also scored the first four points of the overtime that got her team the lead that they never lost. Hencke was also selected to the 2007 State Finals All-Tournament team after averaging 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots in her team's two wins in Madison. The Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association has named Pacesetter Basketball member, Lin Zastrow (Sr; Jefferson H.S., WI) as it's 2007 Miss Basketball, honoring her as the state's Player Of The Year. The 6'4 forward, who is headed to the University of Wisconsin in the fall, averaged 20.4 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocked shots as her H.S. team went 22-2 on the season. She was a starter on Jefferson's state championship squad in 2005 and holds the state tournament record for blocks (17) including 10 in one game (also a record). She finished with 1,627 points in her H.S. career.
Pacesetter Basketball members Devon Carbaugh (Sr; Sterling H.S., IL) and Ellen Ayoub (Jr; Buffalo Grove H.S., IL) posted double-double games in this week's IHSA Supersectional games to lead their respective H.S. teams to this year's state finals to be held on March 2nd and 3rd in Bloomington, IL. Carbaugh had a monster game, scoring 28 points and pulling down 16 rebounds in the Golden Warriors 61-47 upset win over Maine West. The 6'0 senior forward has been on a tear in recent weeks averaging 21 points and 13 rebounds in the five games she's played in this year's tournament. Sterling, which was seeded 7th in their region, is the lowest seed in 21 years to make it to the state finals in Illinois. Ellen Ayoub posted her first career double-double in state tournament action as she scored 14 points and hauled down 11 rebounds to lead the Bison to their second consecutive trip to the state finals with a convincing 61-40 win over Warren H.S. The 6'1 junior forward, whose 14.5 scoring average leads the team, connected on two 3-point field goals in the first four minutes of the game to push Buffalo Grove out to a big first quarter lead, and they never looked back. They are listed below: Ellen Ayoub (Jr; Buffalo Grove H.S., IL) February 4, 2007 COURTNEY WEIBEL (Sr; Rockton Hononegah H.S., IL) who has been in the Pacesetter Basketball program since 2003, connected on seven 3-point field goals against Harlem H.S. and broke the national girls high school basketball record for the most 3-point field goals in a career. Her fifth one of the night at the 2:11 mark of the second quarter from the left wing was the record-breaker surpassing the old mark of 455 set in 1999 by Nikki Tibbs of Butler H.S. in Huntsville, AL. She connected on 7-of-10 in the Lady Indians 67-34 victory on January 30th. The 5'9 sharpshooter who is headed to Marquette University in the fall, has now made at least 100 3-pointers in each of her four H.S. seasons. Just 10 days earlier, Weibel broke the Illinois girls high school state record of 437, set in 1999 by Ashley Luke of Waubonsie Valley H.S. She has the chance to add even further to her record with three regular season games still remaining, along with games in the upcoming Illinois state tournament. Weibel's accomplishment put her in the national spotlight and was chonicled by ESPN, USA Today, and Sports Illustrated among others. She is also the first girls player from Illinois to ever hold a national record. January 15, 2007 Pacesetter Basketball member JAMIE RUSSELL (Rock Falls H.S., IL) gave the University of Wisconsin an early verbal commitment on Jan 2nd. The 5'7 junior point guard who is averaging 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, & 4 assists per game this season chose the Badgers over Iowa, Purdue, Iowa State, and DePaul....DEVON CARBAUGH (Sterling H.S., IL) went over 1,500 points for her career in a win over Eastland on December 29th. The 5'11 senior, who is still undecided, will announce her collegiate choice this spring....PAIGE FIEDOROWICZ (Johnsburg H.S., IL) also topped the 1,500 point mark for her career. The 6'0 Marquette-bound senior did it on January 5th against Dundee-Crown....ELLEN AYOUB (Buffalo Grove H.S., IL) went over the 1,000 point mark midway thru her junior season on Jan 6th in a win over Whitney Young....DEANNA ORTIZ (Resurrection H.S., IL) who was selected into the program as a 7th grader in 2002, also went over the 1,000 point mark in her junior season in a win over Morgan Park on December 16th. January 8, 2007 Pacesetter Basketball member COURTNEY WEIBEL (Sr; Hononegah H.S., IL) tied the all-time Illinois Girls H.S. Basketball record by connecting on twelve 3-point field goals in a 59-42 victory over conference rival Harlem H.S. on December 14th. The 5'9" sharpshooter who is headed to Marquette University next year also scored a career-high 36 points in the win. December 15, 2006 Pacesetter Basketball member JAMIE RUSSELL (Rock Falls H.S., IL) reached the 1,000 mark on November 18th as she scored 17 points in a 45-35 win against Dixon and then proceeded to break the school record of 1,049 points just seven games into her junior year by scoring 24 points and adding 11 steals, six rebounds, and 5 assists in a 58-31 victory over Kewanee on December 6th....SARAH BOOTHE (Warren H.S., IL) went over the 1,000 point mark on December 8th. The 6'4 junior scored 17 points in a 49-27 win over Round Lake and was able to reach the barrier only seven games into her junior season.

LINDSEY GREENLEE (Sr; Cedarburg H.S., WI) accepted a scholarship to Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT and ASHLEY THOMAS (Jr; Loyola Academy, IL) made an early verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin.
